We hear of lovers who become heartbroken, and parents who lose their only child. We feel sympathy for those who lose everything through a wildfire or other natural disaster beyond their ability to either prevent it or to survive its devastation. And we are ashamed to truly attempt to understand homelessness and abject poverty. Yet, most people set upon themselves the task of rebuilding their lives and souls after tragedies because the other option is too frightening to fathom. No one wants to slip into darkness to vanish into anonymity and hopeless despair, but unfortunately, there are plenty of individuals who eventually succumb to it. How can they be saved?
